The gravity-darkening of highly distorted stars in close binary systems. II. Practical analysis of main-sequence stars in detached systems.
Abstract
Based on the theoretical expressions for the gravity-darkening of close binary systems, the value of the exponent of gravity-darkening has been practically deduced for main-sequence componenents in detached systems from analysis of their observed ellipticity effect. The result reveals that the values of the exponent deduced for main-sequence components with spectral types of O and B do not deviate much from unity, but just after the middle A-type onward, the exponent decreases its value rather steeply.
