Antenna pattern deconvolution and restoration of finite extent brightness distribution by a singular value decomposition technique
Abstract
The retrieval of the brightness temperature distribution of the earth's surface from antenna temperature measurements implies the inversion of a Fredholm integral equation of the first kind. A method for the antenna pattern correction is suggested which makes use of the singular value decomposition. Results of a numerical simulation are given for a scene where the brightness temperature extends over a finite observation interval. This feature appears crucial towards the attainment of a significant increase in spatial resolution.
