Reception and distribution techniques for DBS signals in community antenna installations
Abstract
The reception and distribution of direct broadcast satellite (DBS) television signals in the community antenna installations, widely used in several European countries, will require the adoption of suitable techniques and the development of new receiving and distribution apparatus. This paper introduces proposed distribution techniques for small community antenna installations, taking into account the main technical and economical implications of DBS with respect to terrestrial broadcasting, mainly related to the different kinds of modulation and to the new coding systems for video and audio signals. The evolution of the community antenna installations from the reception of terrestrial broadcasting signals only to the reception of DBS signals is also examined.
