Acoustic wave propagation near the axis of a refractive waveguide
Abstract
A part of the acoustic field of a point source located near the axis of a weakly irregular refractive waveguide is calculated using the method of twoscale expansions. This part of the field corresponds to rays that are close to the waveguide axis (the part of the field corresponding to rays that are far from the axis can be calculated by the ordinary ray tracing method). The applicability limits of the formulas obtained here are extended through a conversion from Cartesian coordinates to ray coordinates defined by the waveguide axis.
