Stars in which planetary systems can be sought
Abstract
A catalog of 53 stars selected from the solar vicinity (10-parsec radius) represents a novel attempt at a search for planetary systems. Stars of the following classes were chosen: (1) stars of the spectral classes F5-G9; (2) stars with low-mass satellites, (3) all stars situated within a 10-light-year-radius, (4) wide binaries with intracomponent distances greater than 30 AU, and (5) stars with IR excesses. It is concluded that the discovery of planetary systems will provide important information in the search for extraterrestrial life.
