Acceleration-dependent fluid forces
Abstract
A comprehensive formulation is presented for the treatment of the acceleration-dependent forces of both rigid and flexible bodies. This effort is prompted by the inferior numerical efficiency of FEM for problems involving infinite domains and the need for a formulation that can be implemented by state-of-the-art software. The approach yields the added mass distribution, in addition to the gross coefficients; both linear and nonlinear terms can be calculated.
