Reverse flow radius in vortex chambers
Abstract
When sufficiently large swirl is applied at a vortex chamber inlet, the resulting vortex breakdown at the centrally located outer port is accompanied by a strong reverse flow near the axis of rotation. The dimensionless reverse flow radius is presently determined on the basis of the equations of motion and energy. The reverse flow radius is shown to depend entirely on the vortex chamber's geometrical parameters.
