Coude radial velocity observations at Calar Alto Observatory : zero-point and accuracy.
Abstract
The radial-velocity performance of the coudé spectrograph at the 2.2 m telescope of Calar Alto Observatory has been investigated on the basis of measurements of 57 spectrograms of 20 IAU standard radial-velocity stars. Analysis of the measurements yields the following results: (1) A list of 20 comparison lines and 16 stellar lines suitable for radial-velocity determination in F5 - M5 stars has been established. (2) Measurements based on these lines have an average internal mean error σint = 0.24 km s-1 and a plate-to-plate agreement for constant stars of σext = 0.58 km s-1. (3) The mean zero-point difference from the IAU standard system is derived. The data supply supporting evidence for a systematic difference between bright and faint IAU standards.
