Stellar populations in the Milky Way - Comparison of a synthetic model with star counts in nine fields.
Abstract
A sample of predictions from a previously proposed model of the Galactic stellar content is presented in various directions, excluding the Galactic plane. The absolute and apparent magnitudes, colors, distances, spectral types, and ages are shown to predict correctly the star distributions as functions of one or several of these parameters. Examples of color distributions in nine Galactic fields covering magnitudes from 14 to 22 are given, and comparisons are made with predictions from other Galaxy models.
