Permeability of a screen wick
Abstract
Permeability of a screen wick for a heat pipe is given by the equation of Blake-Kozeney, but through inspection of this equation, it is expected to be influenced by the magnitude of porosity. Porosity is indistinct because of tightness of the installed wick, influence of the holding spring, etc., and it seems that there is much difference between actual porosity and porosity calculated by the equation of Marcus. By assuming that the shape of a wire is a series of circular arcs and by considering a model which has arbitrary gaps between layers, the influence of the coefficient of shrinkage, layer gap, the number of layers and so forth on porosity of a screen wick was made evident.
