The film boiling wake behind a cylinder in crossflow
Abstract
The similarity between film boiling wakes and cavitation wakes is exploited by adapting a reentrant jet cavitation model to predicting the dimensions of film boiling wakes behind cylinders. Wake pressures required for closure of the mathematical model were measured during flow film boiling of freon-11 from a 0.953-cm cylinder. A comparison of theoretical to observed wake pressures and dimensions indicates that film boiling and cavitation wakes are not substantially different, as long as the proper pressures and separation angles are used as input.
