Second-order modeling of the effect of intermittency on scalar mixing
Abstract
A second order model is presented which describes scalar intermittency near the free boundary of a uniform density, non-reacting turbulent shear flow. Calculations agree favorably with the measurements of Antonia in a heated turbulent free jet with a co-flowing stream. We regard this successful modeling as a first step toward including scalar intermittency in flow with density fluctuations, and ultimately with combustion.
