Orbit transfer with very low acceleration
Abstract
Minimum-fuel transfer in a specified duration t sub f is analyzed under the assumption of constant specific impulse and a limit A sub M on acceleration so low that orbital averaging is permissible. The initial orbit is assumed circular so that only three orbital parameters are required. The total Delta V then depends only on the initial and final orbits and on the product A sub M(t sub f). This Delta V is evaluated for the cases of transfer to equatorial geosynchronous orbit from low parking orbits with inclinations zero and 28.5 degrees.
