d.c. methods of cell characterization. I - Evaluation of materials and components
Abstract
The concepts and problems associated with dc measurements used in evaluating solid state ionic systems in battery materials research are examined. In particular, attention is given to conductivity measurement, transport number measurement, and measurements of electrode/electrolyte interface reactions. The discussion then focuses on dc techniques for testing full cell/battery parameters, such as life expectancy, charge retention, ability to recharge and deliver power, and capacity and energy efficiency over a wide uncontrolled temperature range.
