Binding between carbon atoms and vacancies in platinum
Abstract
Evidence for a large binding energy (greater than or equal to0.5 eV) between interstitially dissolved carbon atoms and vacancies has been obtained from three types of experiment on platinum. This paper reviews the evidence for the precipitation, diffusion and ordering of carbon atom/vacancy pairs and discusses some implications of strong vacancy/impurity binding.
