Abstract
The TV-repeater payload being developed for the Olympus satellite to provide experimental DBS-TV service to western Europe as a whole (on channel 20 or 28 and to Italy on a national basis (on channel 24) starting in 1987 is described. The receiving antenna, the two transmitting antennas, and their coverage areas; the receiver, IF, and power sections; and the payload service unit are characterized. Performance data are listed in a table, and coverage-area maps and block diagrams of the main components are provided. The European channel has minimum EIRP 58.8 dBW, while the minimum and maximum EIRP for the Italian channel are 58.4 and 61.0 dBW.
