High spatial resolution thermal imagers
Abstract
The effect of anamorphic detector optics on Signal Processing In The Element (SPITE) detectors is discussed. Anamorphic optics enable a substantial improvement in horizontal detector modulation transfer function to be realized without requiring any detector geometry changes, and with a minimal loss in thermal sensitivity. Anamorphic detector optics were designed for thermal imaging common modules, as a form, fit and function retrofit to existing imagers. The only adjustment required is an increase in bias current, and this can be accomplished with the present bias supply circuits. The consequent increase in power dissipation is easily accomodated with the current detector and dewar combination. Comparison of images taken using an imager with standard optics and an imager with anamorphic optics demonstrates substantially improved spatial resolution.
