Point contact solar cells - Theory and modeling
Abstract
A new type of silicon solar cell designed for high concentration applications, the point-contact solar cell, is discussed. It is predicted that the point-contact cell is capable of an efficiency of 28 percent at the design point of 500X geometric concentration and 60 C cell temperature. This paper discusses the modeling of this device and presents recent experimental results which have obtained 25 percent efficiency at 200X and a temperature of 27 C. Emphasis is placed on the design philosophy of the cell.
