Los Alamos free-electron laser
Abstract
The free-electron laser (FEL) oscillator has demonstrated high peak and average power, broad-wavelength tunability, and near-ideal optical quality. An electron energy-extraction efficiency of 1% was measured. The predicted production of synchrotron sidebands was observed in the broadened optical spectrum. As shorter wavelengths and higher powers are pursued, higher currents with improved beam quality will be required. Advanced injectors and energy-recovery systems are developed to meet these demands.
