Flow visualization of turbulent boundary layer on flat and cylindrical heated walls
Abstract
High-speed films of coherent structures in a heated-from-below air stream in turbulent flow over flat and cylindrical walls are presented. Simultaneous hot wire measurements were realized by means of DISA System M, TCA, and APA. Especially the components of the Reynolds stress tensor were evaluated when the six equations for effective velocity fluctuations in chosen directions were solved. Oscilloscope measurements were correlated with the optical registration of hot-air diffusion and convection into the cold stream of air. For better visualization of the paths of the large-scale structures, other gases and water drops were injected.
