Autofocusing
Abstract
Characteristics, problems, and applications of autofocusing (AF) systems are described. Active AF-systems often need luminous object surfaces; their use is advantageous in case of moving or weakly luminous objects. Passive AF-systems function for reflected light and transilluminated objects. Quality characteristics are derived from the principle of the design of feedback control system and regulating units, and from the intelligence of the system (adaptive control, recognition of perturbation signals and relative extrema).
