Amplification and generation of ultrashort laser pulses by a neodymium glass fiber
Abstract
An experiment to generate and amplify ultrashort (12-20 ns) laser light pulses in neodymium (Nd) glass fibers is described. The amplification characteristics of the glas fibers in the Q-switched mode are analyzed in two systems of kinetic equations: one for the active medium; and one for a system of short-lifetime coloring centers. The maximum gain value of the glass fibers was 150-180 mks. Oscillographs of the input light pulses are provided.
