Application of Pasternak model to some soil-structure interaction problems. Volume 2: Determination of foundation parameters and the choice of models
Abstract
This study is reported in two volumes concerning the analyses of continuously supported structures and their foundation responses. Volume 2 gives methods of parameter determination of foundation models for use in supported-structure analysis. Four methods for determining these parameters are discussed in detail. Though the last of these, Method 4, has gained reputable comments concerning its calculation of model parameters, the author exposes this method as conceptually invalid, contrary to its acceptance and recognition. The proper methods for determining suitable foundation models and their corresponding parameters are offered. Volume 1 documents research for the Pasternak Base model and its implementation for design of hydrotechnical structures. Solutions are offered for a variety of plates subjected to the different loading conditions common to Corps of Engineers structures.
