Reduction of flow coherence in forced, subsonic jets
Abstract
Various flow configurations were studied to achieve reduction of shear-flow coherence in forced, subsonic free jets. Introduction of sharp corners with triangular nozzles and of spinning flow with swirler nozzles interfered with the generation of coherent vortices. Reduction of flow coherence was achieved in jets issued from pipes and orifices. Details of the mean and turbulent velocity profiles, jet spreading rates, and shear-layer spectral contents for the various flow configurations are discussed.
