An electro-optic displacement gauge
Abstract
A noncontacting displacement gauge using fiber-optic coupled sensors has been designed and used successfully on the Huron Landing underground test event. The design and operation of the Huron Landing gauge are described, and adaptations of the concept that can be used to measure the response of structures to high-amplitude shock loading are outlined. It is demonstrated that the fiber-optic displacement gauge can provide large dynamic range, a resolution of at least 5 percent of the range, and high frequency.
