Processing directly sampled radar data
Abstract
Current A/D converters are sufficiently fast to directly sample radar receiver signals at intermediate frequencies where the carrier frequency is greater than signal bandwidth. By applying well known rules for sampling and processing such narrow band signals, economies in hardware as well as performance improvements may be obtained. Attention is presently given to the pertinent theoretical issues, and the processing requirements of linear filtering for intermediate frequency samples. Illustrative cases are presented demonstrating that pulse compression may be performed without resolving the signal into I and Q components.
