Efficient 3D radar design
Abstract
The conventioal approach to radar design is discarded in favor of looking into the specifics of the requirements and operation of the radar. All of the classsical considerations are maintained but the individual requirements are separated and treated individually to permit a more optimal design for each of the requirements. The indivudial designs are then combined into a composite design which is far more efficient. It is shown that significant improvements are possible while concurrently reducing both the power and hardware required. A reduction of more than 3 dB in power and 66 percent in processing hardware is realized in a design example. The approach is applicable to radars using a rotating antenna or fixed phased-array antennas.
