Range simulation for laser ranger testing
Abstract
This paper discusses testing of laser rangers from the standpoint of testing the accuracy of the ranger. Since automated ranger testing requires simulation of range, a discussion of several techniques for such simulation is given. The most critical element in range simulation is precision delay for simulating time of flight of the laser pulse. A major part of the paper discusses methods for implementing such a delay. Factors such as cost, complexity, accuracy and maintainability are given for the candidate systems.
