Hybridized control and protection for series resonant switching converters
Abstract
Architectures for the control and protection of three series resonant inverter (SRI) switching converter topologies are described. Design requirements for the functional circuit elements in SRI-based converters are discussed, with emphasis given to circuitry in the Back Bias Sensor (BBS) component, the Firing Pulse Generator, and the control unit circuits. Implementation of the architectures using four custom-made microcircuits is described, and preliminary test results are summarized with respect to the phase transition timing and current signal waveforms of the SRI circuits. Black and white photographs of the microcircuits are provided.
