Similar solutions to the threedimensional turbulent boundary layer equations
Abstract
The extension of the concept of similarity which leads to similar solutions of the boundarylayer equations to a class of threedimensional turbulent boundarylayer flows is discussed. Results obtained using a twolayer algebraic eddy viscosity model to obtain closure are presented. If closure is obtained by using either a kepsilon model with model equations for the turbulent kinetic energy and the dissipation rate of kinetic energy, or with a system of model equations for the Reynolds stresses, similar solutions are possible. It is shown that similar solutions exist for the threedimensional variation of sink type flows, independent of the method of closure.
