Similar solutions to the three-dimensional turbulent boundary layer equations
Abstract
The extension of the concept of similarity which leads to similar solutions of the boundary-layer equations to a class of three-dimensional turbulent boundary-layer flows is discussed. Results obtained using a two-layer algebraic eddy viscosity model to obtain closure are presented. If closure is obtained by using either a k-epsilon model with model equations for the turbulent kinetic energy and the dissipation rate of kinetic energy, or with a system of model equations for the Reynolds stresses, similar solutions are possible. It is shown that similar solutions exist for the three-dimensional variation of sink type flows, independent of the method of closure.
