An onboard optoelectronic photometer of atmospheric emissions
Abstract
A four-channel photometer intended for use on meteorological satellites in circular sun-synchronous orbit is described. The photometer is designed to detect three bright emissions which play an important role in the photochemical energy balance of the daytime atmosphere and in auroras: the 3914 A line of N2(+), the 6300 A line of atomic oxygen, and the oxygen ion doublet at 7319-7330. Particular attention is given to the operating conditions and error characteristics of the photometer.
