IFSMTF experiences and conclusions regarding the use of Kapton insulated, high-voltage cable in a vacuum/cryogenic environment
Abstract
This paper describes the experiences of the International Fusion Superconducting Magnet Test Facility (IFSMTF), formerly called the Large Coil Test Facility, with regard to the use of Kapton insulated cable for high-voltage instrumentation within the IFSMTF vacuum vessel. Initial high-performance tests performed on the General Dynamics electrical system were disappointing and led to the philosophy and technology associated with the use of Kapton insulated cable.
