Rusty bolt EMC specification based on nonlinear system identification
Abstract
The present study is concerned with the 'rusty bolt' (metal-insulator-metal junction) nonlinearity which can cause interference. The electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance of such rusty bolt junctions is specified, taking into account a modeling of the junctions as mildly nonlinear systems. For such systems an expression of the EMC specification parameters in terms of the Volterra nonlinear transfer functins (NLTFs) of the junctions is possible. Attention is given to the relationship of specification parameters to the NLTFs and the linear transfer function (LTF), details of rusty bolt modeling, the rusty bolt NLTF identification, and examples regarding the prediction of the EMC specification parameters.
