A ballistic filter with low pressure loss
Abstract
The performance of a rectangular ballistic filter was studied in a modified half-section rig. Variations in cascade and blade angles were investigated. An optimum configuration within the confines of the rig is suggested from the experimental results. Although pressure loss is within the specifications, filter efficiency is not. It is recommended that work be done to explore the effect of ramp size, shape, and position on the performance of the configurations tested and also to test further configurations to improve filter performance. It is noted that filter efficiency heavily depends on inlet velocity.
