Radar array processing for angle of arrival estimation
Abstract
This chapter is concerned with the study of a radar system in which a transmitting antenna is used to floodlight the environment surrounding the radar site and a receiving array antenna is used to analyze the received signal. In particular, an investigation is conducted regarding the use of a linear array antenna to solve the problem of estimating the angle(s) of arrival of plane wave(s) impinging on the array from unknown direction(s). Attention is given to basic signal and noise models, the multipath model, the effect of multipath on the spatial correlation matrix, the Fourier method, the maximum-likelihood estimation, the maximum-likelihood receiver for symmetric multipath, an adaptive antenna with a calibration curve, experimental results, and parametric spectral estimation methods.
