First experiences with an on-axis LDV-system in special application to open-channel flow
Abstract
Nonintrusive simultaneous measurement of the main and transverse velocity component in compound open-channel flow requires the application of two-component on-axis LDV technique. In this paper a modified TSI single color, two-frequency on-axis LDV equipment is described and several alternatives of signal processing are discussed. For a comparative investigation of signal quality power spectra of single Doppler bursts were determined in order to measure mean signal-to-noise ratios at the exit of the system specific signal separation devices. The major objective of these experiments was to examine the LDV-system's applicability to counter-type signal processing with respect to reliable measurement of turbulent quantities. Finally some preliminary experiments are described concerning the application of the on-axis LDV equipment to high and low turbulent open-channel flow.
