Research on the multicomponent diffusion theory and its application to the calculation of evaporation histories of multicomponent droplets
Abstract
A method is presented to obtain the exact solution of the Stefan-Maxwell equations for multicomponent diffusion systems. This method is the continuation of Gilliland's as well as Toor's (1957) works for ternary diffusion systems. As an example, a solution of the Stefan-Maxwell equations for four-component system is given. Finally, the result is used for the calculation of the evaporation histories of multicomponent fuel droplets in hot air flow. The calculated results compare favorably with the experimental data.
