A high efficiency global coverage array
Abstract
A design for a global coverage satellite communications antenna is described. The aperture size of the antenna, the synthesis of the fields across the aperture, the antenna efficiency, the tolerancing of the antenna system, and the polarization purity of the antenna pattern are adjusted to result in near maximum gain over the coverage zone, taking the limited aperture size into account. The selection of the optimum configuration is described in detail, and the manufacture and range testing of a breadboard model are reviewed.
