Minimum and non-minimum phase fadings effects on digital systems - A new approach to outage prediction
Abstract
A general model describing the effects of selective fadings on digital radio is proposed which uses a new statistical description for the amplitude of secondary rays, a biexponential distribution for delays, and the concept of system signature. The model is extended to include space diversity systems, both with IF phase combining and baseband hitless switching; the synergistic effect can be identified by comparing predictions for unprotected and space diversity channels. The effectiveness and flexibility of the model are demonstrated by testing results against experimental data collected at 7 and 11 GHz on a 47-km-long hop over a period of two years.
