Effects of propagation through rain on polarisation-diversity radars
Abstract
The polarization diversity technique is used in the remote sensing of rain, melting band, and ice particle regions by ground-based radars. Attention is presently given to the Circular Depolarization Ratio and Linear Depolarization Ratio methods' performance characteristics at S-band. In practice, the former should be most effective in light rain, while the former is most useful in medium and heavy rain.
