Stabilization of masers with relativistic electron beams by feedback suppression
Abstract
An active method of feedback suppression for masers of the TWT type is proposed which is based on transferring energy from the feedback wave to the cyclotron wave in the beam, and then removing it from the maser cavity together with the beam. A simple model is used of a waveguide section filled with an isotropic dielectric of permittivity through which a straight-line electron beam passes, and the external axial field is chosen such that the Cherenkov and cyclotron resonances of the beam with the (TM) waveguide mode occur at the same frequency.
