Effect of an electric field on a local focus of ionization in air
Abstract
An experimental study has been made of the voltage-current characteristics of air-filled gaps with local foci of ionization: flames, the plasma of an electric arc, and an array of coronating conductors. The maximum currents which can be extracted from foci of ionization are discussed. The possibility of using an external field to supply energy is discussed. The maintenance of ionization at the focus itself is discussed. The effect of an electric field on a focus of ionization is analyzed qualitatively.
