Heating of a supersonic gas flow
Abstract
Steady supersonic gas flows heated either directly or by physicochemical reactions are discussed. The equations of conservation and state supplemented by additional conditions based on physical considerations are used. It is found that the flow becomes unstable when the cooling rate exceeds a threshold. An interpretation of some recent experimental results is suggested.
