A CO waveguide laser for monitoring atmospheric pollution
Abstract
A sealed-off water-cooled CW CO waveguide laser has been constructed for atmospheric pollution monitoring systems based on the differential absorption principle. The laser is switched between two adjacent vibrational-rotational transitions by modulating the resonator length at 1 kHz. The minimum relative absorption has been estimated experimentally at 0.0004, which is equivalent to determining an NO concentration of about 0.4 parts per million over a path of 10 m.
