Cooperative effects due to radiative de-excitation of quantum systems by electrons
Abstract
A novel mechanism is proposed for the production of X-ray and gamma-rays by a beam of relativistic electrons passing through an excited medium. It is shown that the radiation is due to the de-excitation of the quantum system interacting with the electrons. It is suggested that the radiation yield may be enhanced by the correlation of excited quantum systems in the medium.
