Stimulated emission in the presence of axial channeling
Abstract
The stimulated emission from electrons in an axisymmetric focusing electric field is examined within the framework of quantum theory. A physical mechanism for stimulated emission is identified on the basis of a nonequidistant electron energy spectrum, and a series of analytical equations is formulated in order to describe the mechanism, taking into account recoil effects. Some possible applications of the physical mechanism of stimulated emission in free-electron laser systems are briefly discussed.
