Calculation of flow past a plate with transverse ribs
Abstract
A numerical solution is obtained for the Navier-Stokes equations describing the flow of an incompressible fluid arising near a horizontal plate with one or two interceptors. At a Reynolds number of 1000, a plate with two interceptors placed transverse to the flow is found to have sufficient structural strength when the height ratio of the interceptors h1/h is 0.75 and the distance between then is L1 = 3.5 h. In this case, the strength of the system with two interceptors is about 1.8 times less than that of a system with one interceptor. The maximum lift-drag ratio in these conditions is achieved at h1/h = 0.75 and L1 = 3 h, and exceeds the corresponding value for a plate with one interceptor by 1.5 times.
