The AUSSAT Satellite Service - An overview
Abstract
The launching of the communication satellites, which are 6.6 m in height, 2.2 m in diameter, and 1250 kg, is examined. The benefits of a satellite communication system, such as multidestination capabilities and easy access, are discussed. The satellite system is useful for distribution of television and radio programs, and voice and data transmission; a list of major users of the system is provided. The benefits of the system to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in transmitting, gathering, and exchanging data are described. The applications of the satellite system to educational data transmission, aeronautical communication systems, and telephone services are analyzed.
