Computer aided synthesis of communication satellite systems
Abstract
A simulation program for implementation of communications systems for telephony, data transmission, television networking with or without sound programs, plus television broadcasting and community reception is described. The program, SIKOM, compares for a desired coverage area, implementations of communications satellite systems and terrestrial long lines networks. The structure of the program and of the main routines are summarized and diagrammed, and some of the more important subroutines are described in detail. The discussion topics include the input parameters, range of services and requirements, and descriptions of the terrestrial long lines network and the satellite communication systems, including the cost analyses. The program can aid in devising strategies for utilizing TVBS and point-to-point transmission systems for domestic and regional applications and will enable the user to study the economics and technical feasibilities of various design options.
