Vortexes in a two-dimensional incompressible fluid
Abstract
The behavior of vortexes in a two-dimensional incompressible fluid on a stationary plane is investigated theoretically and experimentally in comparison with the case of a rotating fluid. An analysis of the results obtained shows that, from the standpoint of two-dimensional theory, the rotation of the system does not significantly affect the behavior of the long-lived vortexes. Rotation, however, is important in the case of three-dimensional motions since it inhibits three-dimensional convection.
